What Is GI Stasis in Rabbits?
Gastrointestinal stasis describes slowed movement of food and gas through a rabbit’s digestive tract, commonly associated with pain, stress, dehydration, inadequate intake, dental disease, or other illness.
It is a syndrome with an underlying cause, not simply a diagnosis to manage without investigation.
Seek Prompt Veterinary Help When
- The rabbit stops eating or produces markedly fewer droppings.
- Breathing becomes labored, noisy, or unusually fast at rest.
- The rabbit is weak, collapsed, very cold, or unable to move normally.
- Pain, bloating, bleeding, head tilt, seizure activity, or severe injury appears.
- A subtle change worsens quickly or occurs with more than one symptom.
